New Wildland Fire Technology Program

The Wildland Fire Technology Program is designed ​for students​ who ​want ​to ​gain ​certification ​as ​a ​wildland​ firefighter​ through ​the​ National​ Wildland Coordinating Group (NWCG). The Wildland Fire Technology Program provides training in hand crew formation, Fireline​ construction,​ and​ the ​use​ of​ wildland ​fire ​equipment. ​Students learn about wildland fire crews (engine crews, hand crews, hotshot crews, helitak crews, and smokejumpers), wildland fire behavior, wildland fire fighter personal protective ​equipment, wildland firefighter safety, helicopter safety, dozer ​safety, wildland fire ​pumps, and wildland fire tools and firing devices. The Wildland Fire Technology Program includes arduous physical conditioning including hiking with up to 45 ​pounds of weight and other strenuous outdoor activities. The academy exceeds the United States Forest Service (USFS) minimum ​training requirements for an ​entry-level wildland firefighter for certification purposes.

  • Lookouts, Communications, Escape Routes, and Safety Operations (S-134)
  • Introduction to Wildland Behavior (S-190)
  • Portable Pumps and Water Use (S-211)
  • Basic Air Operations (S-270)
  • Human Factors in the Wildland Fire Service (L-180)
  • Hazardous Materials First Responder Operational Awareness
  • Low Angle Rope Rescue Operations
  • Confined Space Awareness
  • CPR/AED & First Aid

Established in 1988, the Mt. SAC Fire Technology program has developed a reputation and tradition that has gained the trust of fire departments throughout California.

The Mt. SAC Fire Technology program is dedicated to the instruction and support of potential fire service professionals. Through its courses and Fire Academy, the program enhances the ability of fire and emergency services (as well as allied professionals) to effectively address fire and related emergencies.
